$100,000 of Debt for a $60,000 Per Year Job???

[Note: This post is a continuation of yesterday's post; so it will make more sense if you read it first.]

My oldest sister was a hairstylist (cosmetologist?) for over 20 years before she decided to become a Psychologist.  (After all, she had been dishing out psychological evaluations for years in the salon, so why not! ;) )  Back to school she went . . . and went . . . and went (while working and raising kids as a single mom!)  Finally 10+ years later she can write that impressive “Dr.” in front of her name!  But here’s the thing . . . especially when you throw in the incurred debt of school loans, etc. she actually made more money as a hot-shot hairstylist!

Where am I going with this and what does it have to do with Internet Marketing or making money online?

I find it interesting that people will turn to the Internet to start a business and they’ll fork out anywhere form $39.95 to three grand and expect to retire in the next few months. (And why not?  They’re committed to working an hour or so every few days . . . or so.)  ;)

Uh uh.  It doesn’t work that way out there in the “real” world offline, why should it work that way when you’re working on the Internet?  Okay, part of the problem is that online businesses are typically marketed with the slant that there is apparently no work involved and you can “get rich virtually overnight!” Blah blah blah.

The reality is, a properly structured Internet business such as MyInternetBusiness can out-perform just about anything out there offline, and you can achieve some rapid results (I experienced that myself!), but please let your common sense guide you: It took a lot of work!

But here’s the thing: Let’s say you bought into a Top-Tier Business Program like MyInternetBusiness. And because you were committed to learning everything and anything you could about business on the Internet, you—sometimes very stupidly :/ —purchased just about anything and everything that a so-called Internet “Guru” threw your way.  If you worked real hard at it, you could rack up ten to twenty thousand dollar bill (or so).  Ouch! That could be painful.

But let’s take a step back and do some comparisons.

If you were actually learning from and implementing all those courses, etc. that you bought, after a year you would have to be getting fairly knowledgeable about Internet Marketing, wouldn’t you think?  Maybe not an expert, but certainly you would have developed some expertise on the subject.  So on the down-side you’ve racked up—let’s say on the very high side—$20K in debt investing in your education as well as necessary business tools. (I must emphasise that this would be a worst-case scenario where you bought just about everything you could that you thought would help you in your business!) On the upside, you’ve become educated in Internet Marketing.

What’s the financial “up-side” of becoming a knowledgeable Internet Marketer?  You could expect to earn $250,000 on up to a multiple seven figure incomes!

Now let’s look at getting an advanced degree . . . like, let’s say . . . a psychology from a well-respected University.

$100,000 in student loans; 10+ years out of your life: Result=a job.  A job that pays more than most jobs.  $60K-$80K (maybe more depending upon your market, focus, & how long you’ve been at it).  But in the end it is still a job where you have to trade hours for dollars. (And you have to spend your days listening to people’s tragic stories!!) [My sister spent part of here residency working in prisons with sex-offenders!]

Bottom Line: The rewards for taking the time to struggle through the initial learning stages to become a successfull Professional Internet Marketer, even if along the way you spent WAY TOO MUCH money for the tools and education than you needed to actually accomplish this, you’d still be in a much better financial situation than your psychologist friend.

So, if you’re looking to get into Internet marketing, or you’ve been at it awhile and are still struggling—but you are learning new skills and growing, just think of yourself as enrolling (or enrolled) in the most prestigious university in the World!  Why?  Because no other university out there will teach you specifically how to become as wealthy—not just in regards to income, but also in Time Freedom!

That’s why I like to call it The University of MyInternetBusiness.  Within our system and support training, you can learn your “mega-advanced-degree” in Internet Marketing and once you’ve “graduated” the World-Wide-Web becomes your “oyster” . . . or Internet Cash Machine.

So You Wanna Be a Professional Internet Marketer?

Well . . . actually no.  Most people don’t look to the Internet for a business because they see themselves becoming “Professional Internet Marketers”, they turn to the Internet because they’ve heard that you can make a lot of money online!

More specifically they typically turn to the Internet for these reasons:

  • They’ve heard that you can make a lot of moneyand make it “fast & easy”!
  • They’re looking for a business with a low start up investment. In contrast to starting a “brick-and-mortar” business out there in the “real” world where even the least expensive franchise is typcally out of reach for the average Joe or Jane. You can get into business on the Internet for a fraction of that.
  • They’re looking for a business that is “mobile” and can be ran from just about anywhere that they can plug their laptop into the World Wide Web. In a word, they’re looking for “Freedom”
  • They’re looking for a business that they can work in the evening—or even at two o’clock in the morning if they want.  This way that can build their business without conflict with their “day job”.
I’m sure there are many more reasons that I’m missing here, but my guess is that they’re probably just variations of the above.
But here’s my point:

If you intend to accomplish your aim in any of the above listed reasons for getting in business on the Internet, you are going to have to become . . . A Professional Internet Marketer!

Yes, contrary to what the headlines say on all those “get rich fast and easy . . . practically overnight” sales letters, working on the Internet is a business, and like all businesses it is going involve learning the required skill sets to be truly successful at it.

We’ve all heard the statistics that 95% of businesses fail within the first 5 years of being in business, right? It has become one of those cliché’s that have been around for so long, I doubt anyone knows where it came from. We’ve all just have accepted it as a fact.  But if it is true, (and I have no reason to doubt it, really) then I can say that it is probably because 95% of the people who started those businesses had NO CLUE what it really took to be successful in their chosen industries . . . or in business in general for that matter.

For an in-depth view of this, I’d recommend that you read the book, “The E-Myth” by Michael Gerber.

I have some important thoughts on this subject and how it relates to making money on the Internet—especially in connection to MyInternetBusiness . . . but unfortunately, I have no time to finish today, so check out my next post. (Which will explain the headline of this post which doesn’t actually fit! ;)  )

“The Secret” Behind MyInternetBusiness Success “Secret”

March 23rd, 2009

If you haven’t seen The Secret by now than you’ve probably been living with a remote pygmy tribe in a rain forest for the past 3 years . . . or maybe under a very thick rock.  In fact, most people I talk to these days have seen at least part of it.

It quickly became controversial because more than a few people objected to what seemed to be the overall message— that just through effectively “visualizing” your goals daily that they would somehow magically “manifest” in your life without you having to do any work!

I certainly can see how that would ruffle a lot of feathers!  But frankly, I don’t think that was the message at all—or at least not the entire picture.

In fact, it was clearly stated by several of the “gurus” being interviewed in the film that you had to do the work.

Bottom Line: Whether you view it as something “mystical” going on or whether you feel the results you get as directly related to the actions you took doesn’t really negate the message of The Secret or make it wrong.

Visualizing and having a very clear picture of your goals—and doing it daily will keep you motivated and on track.  And if the “mystics” are right? Great!  Then all the better for you.

Personally I found in my life that by incorporating the principles in The Secret while working very hard—but very smartly, that along the way certain things seem to fall in place that I can’t seem to really see how I was responsible for them.  Maybe it is just a case of what an old boss of mine used to say, “I’ve noticed that the harder I work . . . the luckier I get.”

In the end I would have to say that my Success with MyInternetBusiness—as well as throughout my life in every endeavor—has been due to implementing the principles found in this film

I’m including the first 20 minutes of The Secret here; you’ll want to make you to see the whole film if you haven’t— and if you have? Are you rich?  Are you living your “Dream Life”? No?  I’m thinking we all need to watch this film a lot more!

Passion! The Missing Ingredient in Your Internet Business

March 21st, 2009

It seems that when it comes to making money online, that people only hear “Make your millions online (overnight!)”; so they get all excited and  jump right in before they have even considered that there will be a learning curve. They would never expect to become scientists, doctors, or even brick layers without getting the education they need to even get started let alone be truly skilled or successful at it.

This is also the case if you want to be successful at marketing on the Internet–although there are some that want you to believe its all just a “piece of cake”.  (Admittedly, in contrast to years worked in the Corporate Grind it is “cake”) In reality most people will only lose money attempting to become professional Internet Entrepreneurs; however, there are many that earn more every month than most people make in a year.

Why, you might ask?  Cause for failure in Internet marketing varies as much as the people failing at it, but somewhere near the top you’ll find that they have no true passion for what they’re attempting to succeed at.  Having a Passion for your niche, company or its products or services, makes experiencing success as an Internet Marketer much easier. At a minimum, a true interest, a firm foundation as well as a sincere belief in your company’s products or services will greatly improve your odds for success.

With this foundation, your passion and enthusiasm will transform the work involved and give it a new energy; you’re working . . . but it doesn’t feel like work!  That positive energy will also come through in your marketing as well as every other aspect of your business.

Of course your business will still require a professional web-site, a savvy business plan, productive marketing, and solid follow-up and support. These are fundamentals that your company should already be providing . . . if not, go elsewhere, and fast!  And finally, if passion and enthusiasm are lacking in your business, its going to be a monstrous struggle all the way until you finally throw in the towel and quit in frustration.

Today we have the incredible resource of the Internet to search for money making opportunities that are the right fit for us–something we can really get behind and be passionate about. Eventually you will get to the point that you can effortlessly sell anything you wantwhether youre passionate about it or not but thats down the road a bit.  At this stage in the game make sure you seek a product or company that you can get excited about.

One Word: Out-Sourcing! :-) Live and Learn (& Check out MyInternetBusiness!)

March 19th, 2009

It has been said, “A smart person learns from his own mistakes—but a truly wise person learns from other’s mistakes!”

Well . . . here’s your chance to learn from mine!

One of my definite short-comings is the need to take on too much and do tasks that I should be out-sourcing . . . especially when I lack the expertise needed to do it.

Case in point: Today I decided to upgrade to the latest version of Word-Press (I don’t know why; everthing was just fine & I don’t think I really needed to).

In this process—not having a clue in what I’m doing . . . my usual state of being just knowlegeable to make a mess! LOL!!! — I managed to create a huge train-wreck! ;-/

Short story long . . . I erased my blog! Nnnniiiicccce!

(Okay, I’m not all that dumb . . . I did join MyInternetBusiness, after all)

Lessons Learned:

1) Outsource tasks that you don’t know how to do

2) If you do want to try it yourself . . . back up your files first if possible!

3) If you do totally screw up? (like I did)  It is, as it is.  I caught myself starting to mourn the time spent and the info lost . . .  Not worth it!

Can a moment’s remorse and emotional agony bring back my time or, in this case, my blog posts!  Nope! So instead, I had a huge laugh at myslef, “What a Dufus!!!” Then moved on.

I think I may be able to locate the file that holds all my missing posts, but if not that’s okay.

I’m excited about my Fresh Start!  This blog will be the “New and Improved” Tranques Blog 2.0
